Biography
Dr. Steven M. Handler is an Associate Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, with secondary appointments in Biomedical Informatics and Clinical and Translational Research. He directs Geriatric Telemedicine Programs and the TECH-GRECC at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, and serves as Co-Director of the Pittsburgh Pepper Center and Medical Director of the Healthy Home Laboratory. His research focuses on medication safety, telemedicine, and quality of care in post-acute and long-term care settings, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
Research Interests
Dr. Handler’s research addresses medication safety and telemedicine in post-acute and long-term care settings, including computerized drug-lab alert effectiveness, EHR-based nudge interventions for high-risk polypharmacy, impacts of PDMP mandates on opioid prescribing, and evaluation of telehealth programs for older Veterans at the VA Pittsburgh TECH-GRECC.
