A Message From the Interim Chair

The department is shaping the future of health and healthcare by transforming vast and complex biomedical data into actionable knowledge. Our faculty apply artificial intelligence (AI), statistical modeling, and decision science to molecular, clinical, and environmental data to advance biomedical discovery and improve clinical practice. Equally important, we educate and mentor the next generation of physician-scientists and informatics leaders, preparing them to harness AI responsibly, with scientific rigor, transparency and compassion. This work is enhanced through extensive collaborations with clinical departments in the School of Medicine, as well as with other schools of the health sciences, the School of Computing and Information, and the School of Engineering. We also partner with institutions such as UPMC and Carnegie Mellon University.
