Biography
Dr. Sofia Triantafyllou is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and concurrently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Crete, Greece. She is also an Affiliated Researcher at the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics, Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas. Her research focuses on causal discovery, causal effect estimation, and the integration of observational and experimental data for biomedical applications.
Research Interests
Dr. Triantafyllou’s research centers on developing algorithms and methods for causal discovery from heterogeneous data sets, including data arising from multiple overlapping experimental and observational studies. She has contributed foundational work on constraint-based and score-based causal learning, causal Markov boundaries, and the estimation of causal effects from combined data sources. Her applied work spans biological data analysis (mass cytometry, neural recordings) and clinical data including electronic health records.
