Biography

Dr. Shandong Wu is a Professor of Radiology (primary) with secondary appointments in Biomedical Informatics, Bioengineering, Intelligent Systems, and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh, and an Adjunct Professor of Machine Learning at CMU. He is Founding Director of the Pittsburgh Center for AI Innovation in Medical Imaging (CAIIMI, 117+ members) and leads the Intelligent Computing for Clinical Imaging (ICCI) Lab. He received the Pitt Innovator Award (2019), RSNA Trainee Research Award twice (2017, 2019), and was promoted to full Professor with tenure in 2024. He has published over 150 papers and received more than $5M in research funding.

Research Interests

Dr. Wu develops trustworthy AI and ML methods for computational biomedical imaging analysis and clinical translation, focused on breast cancer screening, COVID-19 imaging, brain disorders, and cancer genomics. His work spans full algorithm-to-deployment pipelines at UPMC with funding from NIH/NCI/NIBIB, NSF, RSNA, Amazon, and Nvidia.
