Biography
Dr. Jonathan Arnold is a practicing general internist and board-certified clinical informaticist at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He serves as Director of CMI eRecord Initiatives at UPMC and Director for Research and Quality Improvement at UPMC McKeesport. His work focuses on translating real-world EHR data into actionable evidence, designing pragmatic clinical trials, and improving clinical medicine through health informatics.
Research Interests
Dr. Arnold’s research leverages EHR and claims data to generate real-world evidence informing clinical practice. Key areas include the impact of PDMP mandates on opioid prescribing, comparative effectiveness of AI early-warning systems vs. physician judgment for clinical deterioration, real-world outcomes of GLP-1 agonists in type 2 diabetes, EHR-based nudge interventions for high-risk prescribing, lipid-lowering therapy adherence, and long COVID epidemiology through the NIH RECOVER initiative.
