Biography

Dr. Douglas Landsittel is a Professor and Chair of Biostatistics at the University at Buffalo (SUNY) and former Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh. He holds a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Pittsburgh and a record spanning over 170 peer-reviewed publications with more than 9,400 citations (h-index=54). His career has spanned occupational epidemiology at CDC/NIOSH, clinical biostatistics at Pitt, and academic leadership at Indiana University-Bloomington and UB. He was appointed the James A. Caplin Chair in Evidence-Based Public Health (2021–2024), is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (2022), and has received multiple national awards for his publications and study section leadership.

Research Interests

Dr. Landsittel’s research focuses on statistical methods for intervention studies, causal inference, and prognostic modeling across occupational and clinical research. Key methodological areas include comparative effectiveness research with observational data, neural networks for clinical prediction, biomarker panel development, and propensity score methods. Application areas span transplant medicine, polycystic kidney disease, cancer epidemiology, occupational injury prevention, and, more recently, COVID-19 outcomes and health disparities. He led the PCORI-funded ENACT network for building causal inference capacity at minority-serving institutions and has chaired multiple NIH and CDC study sections.
