Biography
Dr. Wei-Hsuan “Jenny” Lo-Ciganic is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research uses large healthcare databases and machine learning to study medication use patterns, opioid prescribing and misuse, substance use disorders, and population health outcomes with the goal of informing policy and improving patient safety.
Research Interests
Dr. Lo-Ciganic’s research leverages insurance claims, EHR, and pharmacy dispensing data to characterize medication use and misuse at the population level. Current projects develop ML models to predict opioid overdose risk, study racial and socioeconomic disparities in opioid treatment access, and evaluate the impact of policy interventions on substance use outcomes.
