An update on EMR Development and Deployment in Malawi
Abstract:
While Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems continue to improve the efficacy of healthcare delivery in developed countries, they have yet to be widely deployed in the developing world, where more than 90% of the global disease burden exists. Despite slow uptake, Malawi has taken a leading role in piloting innovative approaches to incorporating informatics inventions into healthcare delivery. Baobab Health Trust, a Malawian non-profit organization has been developing EMR systems in collaboration with the Malawi Ministry of Health since 2001. This presentation will include an overview of Baobab’s work building point-of-care EMR modules to support healthcare delivery in Malawi, and discuss challenges and opportunities for future work.
