Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a heterogenous collection of conditions characterized by an increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary vasculature. In the Chan lab, we are using both clinical and lab-based approaches to understanding the progression, mechanisms, and causes of PH. I will discuss our use of UPMC’s Medical Archival Systems (MARS) to identify a patient cohort and extract EMR data to show an increase in mortality in PH patient with atrial fibrillation. I will also discuss our use of network-based approaches to identify miRNA molecules that play a role in PH.
