Abstract: Mining of large databases, including electronic health records, has been a core activity of researchers in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. EHR-based research has focused on critical care epidemiology, process of care, quality improvement, and decision support. This colloquium will provide specific examples of EHR-based research in critical illness which has impacted health services delivery or patient care. We will emphasize sophisticated applications using the EHR, as well as enhancements perceived to be critical to new and groundbreaking applications.
