Abstract: In the coming era of personalized medicine, pharmacogenomics provides a new tool to advance pharmaceutical care. The impactof genetic variation on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics is well-described and genetics-based prescribing information is available in the FDA-approved product labeling of over 100 medications.  In this presentation, the current literature will be critiqued for associations of genetic variation with drug outcomes and leading use cases will be discussed in the context of a framework for pharmacogenomics-based clinical decision making.   Model implementation programs will be also be presented along with the barriers preventing more widespread adoption.
