Uncovering Fundamental Principles of Human Visual Cortex
Abstract: Visual recognition is enabled through a progression of increasingly complex visual representations within the human visual pathway. However, beyond early vision, the form of these representations is almost entirely unknown. Using functional MRI (fMRI) and high-resolution diffusion-weighted imaging (DSI) in conjunction with high density white-matter fiber tractography (HDFT), we have been exploring the functional roles and processing stream responsible for visual object and face recognition. Not surprisingly, it turns out that a clear model of ventral visual processing and representation remains elusive.
