The purpose of this project is to establish a center at the University of Pittsburgh that brings together a diverse group of investigators to carry out research focusing on improving the nation’s ability to detect and characterize cases of disease and outbreaks of disease as quickly as possible. To realize a vision of a state-of-the-art surveillance unit, CASIPH conducts two research projects and support Core activities. The research projects develop a Bayesian case detection system and a Bayesian outbreak detection and characterization system that are closely integrated and deploys those components in an operational Influenza Monitoring System for Allegheny County, PA.
