The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) Health Information Technology Policy Committee (HITPC) has put together a “draft” whitepaper on security and privacy concerns for healthcare “big data”.

The Privacy and Security Workgroup (PSWG) of the Health Information Technology Policy Committee (HITPC) is charged with investigating and providing recommendations to the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on privacy and security issues related to the electronic exchange of health information. The application of big data in healthcare impacts one of the PSWG’s core values; specifically, that patients’ needs and expectations should be considered, and that “patients should not be surprised about or harmed by collections, uses or disclosures of their information.”1   View PDF.
