Special Guest and Key Note Speaker – Dr. Chunhua Weng

Dr. Chunhua Weng is a Tenured Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and the Director for the Biomedical Informatics Resource of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Science at Columbia University.

Dr. Weng holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical and Health Informatics from University of Washington at Seattle.

Prior to joining Columbia, Dr. Weng completed a two-year postdoctoral training fellowship in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at University of Pittsburgh, under the supervision of Drs. Douglas Fridsma and Michael Becich.

Her research has been focused on clinical research informatics methodology and applications and had resulted in over 90 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Weng is an editorial board member for Journal of Biomedical Informatics and a standing member of the Biomedical Library and Informatics Review Committee of National Library of Medicine.

Dr. Weng’s current primary research interests are (1) designing and applying text knowledge engineering methods to improve the computability of clinical research designs and to support knowledge management and reuse for clinical research; (2) designing data-driven methods to improve the efficiency and patient-centeredness of clinical research; and (3) designing socio-technical solutions to integrate patient care and clinical research towards the achievement of a rapid learning health system.
