“Data Mining for Biomedical Knowledge Discovery”
Vanathi Gopalakrishnan, PhD
Assistant Professor

Abstract: Current research in the development and application of data mining algorithms to Biomedicine aims to speedup the Knowledge Discovery process. Our hypothesis is that background knowledge combined with machine learning algorithms can achieve this speedup. We use case studies from three important problem areas in Bioinformatics: protein crystallization, biomarker discovery from proteomic mass spectra and sequence-to-structure prediction; and show how we can advance state-of-the-art.
