Abstract: An implementation model for cancer clinical trial eligibility criteria using markup language will be described. The goal is to create a user-friendly system to facilitate extracting computable eligibility criteria from free-text clinical trial protocol documents, to optimally match patients to trials. An implementation model is being developed using XML, and a Data Type Definition (DTD) has been defined based on protocols in breast, colon and prostate cancer. A simple interface that can be used to convert a text file database into an XML database and the results of the Schema evaluation will be discussed.
