Abstract: The goal of informatics infrastructure in telerehabilitation is to support remote delivery of rehabilitation and home health care services. Since telerehabilitation is an emerging field, we will start by presenting examples of telerehabilitation services. The relationships between telerehabiliatation and telemedicine will also be discussed. We will then briefly outline the activities in the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) on Telerehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh. We will use “Remote Wheelchair Assessment”, one of the tasks within the RERC, to illustrate the challenges in developing informatics infrastructure to support a telerehabilitation service.
