Topic: Measuring Compliance with a Decision Support System
Abstract: An EMR without a high level DSS is nothing more than a glorified word processor. But does the addition of a DSS have an effect on clinical outcomes? This presentation will outline the elements and functionalities of a high level EMR/DSS for inpatient obstetrics, and present results of the impact of the system on both provider behavior and clinical outcomes. We will then discuss the creation of a “Compliance Index”, a metric to determine how well each case followed the suggestions of the DSS, and how this metric could be validated. Uses for this metric both for internal development and for external use by providers and researchers will also be discussed.
